Lapar.com LogoEveryone loves great food, especially if we can have it at a nice place and at a good price. In Indonesia, there is an increasing number of people searching for such deals through the Internet.Lapar.com, an Indonesia-based start-up, is one of the sites they can rely on.

Lapar is an Indonesian word for “hungry”. In short, Lapar.com provides daily deals specifically for culinary products. Everyday, Lapar.com picks a menu from several restaurants and labels them as “Today’s Crazy Price”, along with details of the deal and a brief description about the restaurant.

Inspired by the huge potential in the food and beverage industry in Indonesia, Firman Nurimansyah and Alvin Arief founded Lapar.com to cater for the growing trend in the industry. “We believe that this trend will go upward because of Indonesia’s increasing per-capita income. We expect more people to eat-out as time passes,” Firman told Penn Olson.

Key persons in Lapar.com have intensive backgrounds in the food and beverage industry. “This really helps us in running Lapar.com because those experiences provide us with key information to help our clients better”, Firman explained.

Using the tagline “Top Foods, Crazy Prices”, Lapar.com offers attractive deals, with discount up to 90%. Currently, Lapar.com only serves people in Jakarta and Bandung. But we can expect Lapar to expand to other cities in Indonesia in the near future. Surabaya is already on its list.

Lapar.com charges business by the percentage of sold coupons. The number ranges from 10  to 100 %. Feedback from consumers has been great so far. Lapar.com could sell up to 100 coupons in a day and has gathered more than 9000 fans on Facebook, where people can find daily deals on its page as well.

The process of getting a discount is simple. First, we have to purchase credits to buy coupons for our selected deal. After buying the coupons, we would need to wait for the deal to be activated once a certain number of coupons is sold. When it is activated, we will receive a text notification and get the coupon via email.

To meet growing demand and development, the founders of Lapar.com are currently in talks with several investors. However, they declined to share with us more on investment details. Besides funding, providing quality product is still one of the key focus for the start-up. “The most important thing is to develop Lapar.com and also to find a partner with the same vision,” Firman said.
