One more donation channel to add in the “How can you help” list for the Japan Earthquake relief. Socialbakers, one of the biggest Facebook portals covering a wide range of Facebook statistics, has been partnered with The Salvation Army to collect donations for Japan through Facebook.
They launched a Facebook application called “Unite to Help Japan” where people on Facebook can donate using their PayPal account.
The Facebook application allows users to invite friends and urge them to donate. The application also provides a global donation rank that can be categorized by countries. Users can see their own rank, their donation amount and donation contributed by their friends.
All of the donation collected will be distributed by The Salvation Army, who currently has 3 emergency service relief teams operating in areas devastated by earthquake and tsunami. It is stated on one of application pages that if there are surpluses of donation at the end of the relief effort, The Salvation Army will use these surpluses for similar aid and relief efforts in the South Pacific East Asia region.
By the time this post is written, there are $ 1283 donation collected. In the future, Socialbakers plans to launch the possibility for Facebook pages to send invitations to their fans and measure how much they brought. This will allow larger pages and artists to open up their social profiles for a little bit for donating.
“We believe this social part will help users be socially responsible, and attract a higher conversion in donating,” said Socialbakers in a blog post.
“On top of that tomorrow, we will launch the possibility for Facebook pages to send invitations to their fans, and measure how much they brought. We hope this will allow for larger pages, and artists, to open up their social profiles for a little bit of donating.”
